after school program scholarship
For financial assistance with classes provided as a part of SchoolPower’s After School Program, please fill in the scholarship request form below. SchoolPower provides scholarships for the elementary After School Program to remove barriers for families facing financial challenges to pursue after school enrichment opportunities throughout the school year. We also encourage all families to explore the free classes offered each session.
Eligibility criteria:
- The scholarship request form must be submitted to SchoolPower by August 26, 2024 to be considered for financial assistance with the Fall After School Program session.
- The student(s) must be currently enrolled as a student(s) at Top of the World Elementary and/or El Morro Elementary in 1st through 5th grade for the 2024-2025 school year.
Note: By filling out this form, you are sharing your information confidentially with the SchoolPower team, and agree we can verify your child’s enrollment status with LBUSD. Any assistance you receive from SchoolPower is directly provided by SchoolPower, not related to the educational services of LBUSD. - The scholarship is designed to support students whose families are low or moderate income in order to help remove financial barriers to access after school enrichment experiences. To be eligible, one of the below criteria must apply:
- The applicant’s family income is defined as moderate or below under the State of California Department of Housing and Community Development income limits for Orange County, as depicted in the chart below. The total annual household income of all adults living in the household and the number of immediate family members living in a residence is used to determine income level for these purposes. Income reported should be from your household’s 2023 tax return (form 1040 line 9). Further documentation may be required by SchoolPower.
- The applicant’s family does not qualify based on the income requirements described above, but has special circumstances or reasons to request financial assistance. Special circumstances may include loss of a job, change in marital status, change in living arrangements, medical challenges, etc.
Next steps:
- After the After School Program scholarship request form is submitted, each applicant will be contacted via email and may be asked for additional information (verification of Enrollsy account, financial documentation, etc.).
- The scholarship amount awarded will vary based on family income level, average class cost, and funds available. Grants awarded may be up to $400 per student, per session. This amount is subject to change each session.
- Once the scholarship amount is determined by SchoolPower, SchoolPower staff will apply a credit of the determined amount to the applicant’s Enrollsy account.
- SchoolPower staff will email applicant instructions on how to register when registration opens. Applicants are responsible for registering during the registration period. Classes are not guaranteed or held for scholarship recipients.
- Applicants can use all or some of the applied credit. Any credit remaining after registration is closed will be removed from the applicant’s Enrollsy account. Credit will not roll over to future After School Program sessions, however applicants are welcome to re-apply for a scholarship for the next session.
- Applicants must complete a new scholarship application form for each session in order to receive financial assistance.
- Per IRS Topic No. 421, this scholarship may be taxable as income. The parent/guardian will receive an IRS Form 1099-MISC from SchoolPower for 2024 by January 31, 2025 via email and/or mail. SchoolPower requires a completed Form W-9 on use of the credited funds. Please consult your tax advisor for further advice.
