Allison And Tom Motherway Receive 2021 Bill Steel Award
On Sunday, June 6, 2021, SchoolPower presented “The Bill Steel Award,” its annual recognition of exceptional volunteerism, to Allison and Tom Motherway. The Motherways have been passionate, unwavering supporters of SchoolPower for over a decade. SchoolPower Supporters Gather For Fifth Annual Three Clubs Barefoot Golf Tournament
Monday, May 10, marked the fifth annual Three Clubs Barefoot Canyon Classic at The Ranch at Laguna Beach, benefiting SchoolPower. The event sold out in record speed and generated over $45,000 to support Laguna Beach students through SchoolPower. Eighty barefoot golfers kicked off the afternoon’s festivities with a friendly nine-hole, four-person scramble competition. Introducing the Barefoot Auction
On Monday, May 10, members of the Laguna Beach community will come together for the 5th Annual Three Clubs Barefoot Canyon Classic & BBQ. Hosted by the Ranch at Laguna Beach and Hobie, this day of golf and entertainment raises funds to enhance the educational experience of students at Laguna Beach’s four public schools. Backpacks Distributed to Help Families
SchoolPower is committed to continue to partner with LBUSD to amplify the district’s support of students and families in need. To date, your contributions have enabled us to: Distribute financial assistance for food, gas and clothing to over 100 families impacted by the pandemic Purchase, fill and distribute 40 backpacks with school supplies for this week's secondary in-person reopening Fund educational materials to help support English learners Together as a community, we can eliminate barriers to help all students thrive. Breakfast with Phil Kaye & Sarah Kay
LBHS students and teacher enjoyed a special live performance with two world-renowned spoken word poets, Sarah Kay and Phil Kaye, this morning through Project VOICE. The duo has collectively performed in 30 countries on stages from TED Talks to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and garnered over 20 million views online. Their most recent poetry books have both been Amazon bestsellers: All Our Wild Wonder, by Sarah Kay, and Date & Time, by Phil Kaye. 2020 has been a tough year for education in our small town and across the globe. Here at SchoolPower we've stayed focused on the heart of our mission: Laguna Beach students. Last week, we deployed over 85 gift packages to families in our district who are facing financial hardship. We are committed to partnering with LBUSD to assist in covering basic needs and supplemental educational resources for students in need. The Power of Community
This week, we came together and raised over $175,000 to help over 300 families in our district who are facing financial hardship. I am proud to announce we have exceeded our goal. We are blown away by the generosity of this community and so thankful for all 176 donors who got us to this point. Yesterday, we reached the initial goal of $150,000 after a surprise $50,000 gift from the Wayne Peterson Fund of the Laguna Beach Community Foundation.
