SCHOOLPOWER’S SEVENTH ANNUAL CHEF CHALLENGE

SchoolPower’s seventh annual Chef Challenge, generously hosted by Cary and Suzanne Redfearn at Lumberyard restaurant on January 25, treated 130 guests to a lively and delectable evening while raising $9,516 for Laguna Beach schools.

Principals of the four Laguna schools teamed up and selected competing menus, prepared by Lumberyard Chef Armando Ortega. Elementary school leaders and defending champions Michael Conlon and Chris Duddy made a strong showing with crab arancini, pan roasted John Dory and chocolate creme brulee. But ultimately, the upper schools’ Jenny Salberg and Chris Herzfeld reaped the most votes with their smoked salmon toast, roasted pork loin and salted caramel bread pudding.

SchoolPower President Amy Kramer announced the Salberg/Herzfeld team as the 2016 winner to a cheering crowd. “It’s always fun to come out and see everyone supporting our schools,” El Morro’s Duddy graciously stated. High school principal Herzfeld thanked the crowd and the Redfearns, and ended the night by exclaiming, “I can’t wait for next year!”
